This bank holiday, choose the right service for your healthcare needs. If you are unsure about where to go, please visit NHS 111 online at 111.nhs.uk or call 111 and you will be directed to the most appropriate service for your need.

If you need to visit a pharmacy, please check your local pharmacy's bank holiday opening hours first.

  • Choose self-care for minor illness and injuries. Find out what you should keep in your first aid kit.
  • Choose your local pharmacy for minor health concerns, such as earache, itchy eyes and sore throats.
  • Choose your GP practice for health concerns, or use 111 if your GP practice is closed.
  • Choose our 24/7 helpline, 0121 262 3555, if you need to speak to someone about your mental health.
  • Choose your usual dentist if you need need urgent dental treatment, or use 111 online if your dentist is unavailable. 
  • Choose 111 for urgent health concerns or when you're unsure what to do.
  • Choose 999 for medical or mental health emergencies. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

Dental services

If you need urgent dental treatment on bank holiday Monday (29 May), contact your usual dentist.

If you can't, or don't have one, use 111.nhs.uk. If an urgent appointment is needed, you will be given details of your local out of hours service.

Your local pharmacy

Your local pharmacist is an expert in medicine. They can offer advice, recommend over-the-counter medicines which you can buy without a prescription, and help you with a range of minor health concerns, including sore throats, tummy trouble, and aches and pains.
