A leader at Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System is putting his best foot forward to raise money for a charity that supports children and young people with cancer and their families.
Simon Clarke, Managing Director of the System’s Procurement Collaborative, is embarking on a 100-mile trek along the Welsh coastline in aid of Young Lives vs Cancer.
The charity supports children and young people aged up to 25 with cancer - offering practical, emotional, and financial support, including social workers, grants, and accommodation assistance - to help families cope with the challenges of childhood cancer. Birmingham Children's Hospital is a key partner of the charity which works alongside the hospital's teams to provide patients and their families with support.
Simon, who will start his three-day trek on 4th August 2025 and spend each evening of his expedition wild camping, said: “A significant part of my role in the NHS is driving social value and increasing the value of every pound the NHS spends on goods and services for the greater good of society.
“Through this work I am fortunate to work with the third sector and see the invaluable work they are doing to reduce health inequalities and support our local communities.
“I feel so passionately about this area of work and have decided to do this sponsored walk so that I can play my own small part in making a difference to the lives of others.
“My sincerest thanks to everyone who has donated so far, all the money raised will make such a vital difference to Young Lives vs Cancer’s work supporting children and young people with cancer and their families."
