The Equality Delivery System (EDS) is a toolkit that can help NHS organisations improve the services they provide for local communities, consider health inequalities in their locality, and provide better working environments, free of discrimination, for those who work in the NHS.

At the heart of EDS are 11 outcomes, against which NHS organisations assess and grade themselves.  These outcomes are group under three domains:

  1. Commissioned or provided services.
  2. Workforce health and well-being
  3. Inclusive leadership

NHS Birmingham and Solihull utilises EDS to review performance and set organisational objectives linked into the planning cycle for delivering against the requirement to set specific and measurable equality objectives as part of the Public Sector Equality Duty.

The results of our first EDS review as an Integrated Care Board can be viewed here.
